BA Fine Art (Single & Combined Hons) and BA Photography (Combined Hons) are closely allied within the Department of Art & Design at the University of Chester. Students on these programmes work together towards the final year degree show of which this exhibition is representative.

The BA Fine Art programmes are rooted in practice with integrated theoretical and contextual aspects. Specialist media areas include painting, printmaking, lens and time based media, sculpture and textiles, or combinations of media areas as necessitated by individual practice. Interdisciplinary practice within the course allows for a further expansion, questioning or indeed confirmation of how Fine Art activity and production is undertaken.

BA Photography is rooted in photography as an art form and encompasses all aspects of the medium including vernacular forms: whether found or family snapshots, documentary and fashion. The programme advocates a meeting of practice and theory, and also promotes the making of artist’s books, ephemeral and object-based work, the relationship between still and moving image, and mixed media approaches to image making.
