Artist Leo Fitzmaurice whose exhibition Post Match was held at CUBE gallery in summer 2011, has won this year's Northern Art Prize. This was in recognition for an innovative body of work that uses public signage and branding as raw materials to be subverted and reconstructed.
"Fitzmaurice is known for his witty installations and sculptures which use packaging, design and signage. By deconstructing everyday objects and products to rework them into something that encourages a different viewpoint, he consistently reinvents everyday matter from cigarette packets and cereal boxes to catalogues and comics into architectural and colourful installations."
